World Wide Walls is celebrating its 12th annual festival in Hawai‘i, surpassing over 80 total festivals worldwide this year. Established in 2010 as a global network of artists, World Wide Walls is a festival that brings together local and international artists to create striking murals throughout the city of Honolulu with additional events across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Pacific.
This year, the event will take place in the Kalihi and Palama district, to uplift and advance the primarily underserved area in Honolulu through public art. The 2024 Hawai‘i festival will feature both locally and globally recognized artists and will take place from September 16–22, 2024. The roster of artists will convene in the Kalihi and Palama neighborhoods to create and donate over 40 new murals at three public schools, including Farrington High School, Kalihi Kai Elementary, and Puuhale Elementary.
The festival will also feature an exhibition curated by Thinkspace at Gangway Gallery, talks with Lauren YS, Hera, and Ninja Sketch, parties with Kekoa Collective, a photo show with their School of Photography run by Ja Tecson, and a party located at the White Sands Hotel in Waikiki.
The festival serves as a vibrant celebration of culture both locally in Hawai‘i and abroad, fostering a deep sense of pride and connection among residents and visitors. Kalihi is a melting pot of cultures, with a diverse population that includes Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, Asians and more. The multicultural atmosphere sets the stage for an equitable and inclusive celebration that reflects the dynamic nature and cultural fabric of the community in Hawai‘i.
